The plant fibre papers are made from post-industrial waste in India, meaning that they are a sustainable and environmentally friendly paper option on which to draw, write, and print. They would also be a great option for a collage or bookbinding project.
Owing to the process, each sheet is unique in its colour, texture and grain.
Banana
Banana fibre is extracted from the stumps of cut banana plants. This fibre can be turned into a wonderful, strong paper that is screen print and ink jet friendly when mixed with cotton-rag fibres.
Coconut
Coconut husk or ‘coil’ is a great fibre for paper-making. Coir is a by-product of the coconut industry. Made up of the hair-like strands located between the coconut’s husk and fruit, it is brown and durable and, when added to the mix, gives a lovely fibrous texture to the paper’s surface.
Unbleached Flax
Flax has a very unique long fibre. The plant is used to make linen in the textile industry, paper is made from the residual waste from this process - the end result is a resilient and smooth paper. Due to the paper being unbleached, the surface is organic looking with natural speckles and texture.
