Color Is Power: Photographies de Robert Walker (German language edition)
Hardcover | 25.5 x 1.8 x 30.2 cm | 134 pp
Steidl | 2003 | 9783882438611
Text in German
Mix equal parts of Pete Turner, Alex Webb, and Gary Winogrand and you’ll get a sense of Walker’s photos, but that makes them sound derivative, and they’re not. Taken in New York and other big cities, they compress urban chaos (no telephoto needed by Walker’s wandering eye) into supersaturated, often whimsical collages of pedestrians, architecture and signage.
Robert Walker was born in Montreal, where he studied painting at Sir George Williams University. In the mid-1970s, he developed a keen interest in street photography, moving to New York City in 1978. His first book, New York Inside Out, was published in 1984. The photographer has exhibited widely in the United States, Canada and Europe. His images have appeared in many prestigious journals and books.
